Our Resume
Things We Do and Things We've Done
We boast over thirty years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering as well as
twenty-some years in gundrilling both as 'user' and as Customer Applications Engineer.
But... we’re into more than just gundrilling! We provide consulting services
over a broad range of manufacturing activities.
This activity has helped develop the depth and experience needed to
analyze your specific problems quickly and accurately.
Following are a few of the many projects
we've accomplished and problems we've solved.
1. Assist clients with gundrilling problems. This activity is especially adaptable to phone support. Scope of assistance consists of
a. Provide tooling specs, parameters, documentation, and special fixturing concepts as required for new applications.
b. Analyze inherent gundrilling problems such as tool breakage, over- (or under-) size holes, poor surface finish, hole drift ('wander'), and any other nasty tricks the drilling process might play on you.
c. Provide day to day gundrilling parameters for conventional as well as exotic materials.
2. Assist clients in solution of manufacturing problems of all sorts, conceiving special tooling and fixturing solutions where required. This activity is done either by phone, fax and e-mail, or by plant visitation as the situation warrants.
3. Conceived improved materials handling techniques for manufacturer of massive precision optical lenses to optimize transfer time and eliminate the potential for breakage.
4. Negotiated with Belgian Proof House, the most discerning firearms inspection facility in the world, regarding translation of specifications, reestablishing client's major product into the European market.
5. Designed and implemented simple automatic 'Chip Sweeper', preventing spillage of 3000 gal. coolant system. Previously, with system left unattended, chips would clog the 100 gpm returns, causing environmental chaos and loss of expensive coolant.
6. Solved serious tool breakage problems in coldforming process, saving turn-around cost of $500,000.
7. Developed new steel sources In search of new steel vendors, reformulated steel specs. Achieved not only a superior end product, but defined chemistry to extent that the 'black magic' of the past was eliminated.
8. Established precision gun barrel manufacturing department in new plant. Coordinated machine moves, designed in-line parts cleaning unit and effected setup/tryout and process documentation. Machines: gun drills, chip systems, cold form machines, turning centers, cutoffs, and unique filtering equipment.
9. Solved serious assembly problems with headspace 'setback' that had plagued client for (5) years. Successful solution, requiring metallurgical as well as mechanical modification, completely eliminated problem.
10. Led project for remanufacture of a gun barrel Coldforging Machine (scope $1,000,000). The machine one of five in the world was completely rebuilt with a 7-Axis CNC Control. Oversaw specs, design input, progress reports and final testing. Direct benefit: this machine, vital to a major product line, was updated to state of the art, eliminating frequent and costly downtime.
11. Set up complete Bimetal Thermometer line for client's new plant in Germany. Designed/debugged tooling and trained German counterparts in operation of equipment.
12. Electro-Deposition Painting System Led a team of chemists, engineers, and outside contractors in conception, specifications and implementation of process, realizing substantial cost savings and environmental improvement.
